NYBG’s Bronx Food & Farm Tour: Highbridge Walking Tour

The Highbridge neighborhood takes its name from the adjacent bridge built in 1848 by Irish immigrants, and hosts several community gardens and farms occupying lots that were vacant between the 1970s and 1990s. Visit La Isla Youth Garden, Woodycrest Community Garden, Las Casitas, and Taqwa Community Farm to explore their history, discover the healthy food and beauty of these sites, and meet the gardeners who currently care for them. The tour will end with a special lunch talk: Community Capacity Building and the Urban to Rural Continuum with Iridescent Earth Collective, led by member Kadeesha Williams, a rural farmer raised at Taqwa Community Farm. Registration required on the New York Botanical website (NYBG). In partnership with B-Blossom Catering, Bronx Green-Up/NYBG, HealthFirst, Iridescent Earth Collective, La Isla Youth Garden, Las Casitas, Mary Mitchell Family and Youth Center, Montefiore Health System, NYC Parks GreenThumb, Taqwa Community Farm, and Woodycrest Community Garden.
