If you’re looking for some local cultural things to do this fall, The Bronx Museum of the Arts has three new exhibitions and a borough-wide public art project coming up. And as always, admission to the Museum is free.
The Museum’s Fall 2026 Exhibitions Opening Celebration takes place Friday, October 9 from 6–8 PM and will introduce three new projects: Saya Woolfalk: The Woods Woman Method, Beyond the Margins: Bronx Museum Teens Activate the Permanent Collection, and Alex Strada’s Public Address.
The October 9 celebration is free and open to all ages, with remarks from artists and organizers, plus complimentary light bites and beverages while supplies last. RSVP is encouraged, although drop-ins are welcome.
Here’s what’s happening.
Saya Woolfalk: The Woods Woman Method
Opening October 9, The Woods Woman Method gives visitors a look at artist Saya Woolfalk’s creative process as she develops a major installation planned for The Bronx Museum’s renovated main lobby in 2027.
Woolfalk’s WoodsWoman is a fictional botanist-healer and mythic character, and the exhibition brings together materials from her creative process with works from the Museum’s permanent collection.
Rather than simply presenting a finished artwork, the exhibition offers a look at how the project is being developed and gives visitors a chance to explore Woolfalk’s ideas, research and materials along the way.
Opens: Friday, October 9

Beyond the Margins: Bronx Museum Teens Activate the Permanent Collection
This one is especially interesting for families with older kids and teens.
Fourteen New York City high school students who participated in The Bronx Museum’s Teen Summer 2026 program have selected works from the Museum’s permanent collection for their own exhibition.
The students explore ideas including art as resistance, challenging conventions and experimenting with materials, bringing their own perspectives to works that are already part of the Museum’s collection.

Alex Strada’s Public Address
You don’t have to wait until October to experience one of the Museum’s fall projects.
Beginning September 14, artist Alex Strada’s Public Address will bring a series of public artworks and signs to locations throughout the Bronx.
The project, created in partnership with Storefront for Art and Architecture, DSS and the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, uses official-looking DOT signage to share the perspectives of people living and working in New York City shelters.
A central installation will be located at Joyce Kilmer Park, with additional signs placed throughout the borough.
There will also be a free public event at Joyce Kilmer Park on Wednesday, September 23 from 5–7 PM, giving visitors an opportunity to meet up and experience the project together.
