Princess Nokia coming to Lehman Center for her Bronx debut this September

Princess Nokia is coming to Lehman Center for the Performing Arts for her first-ever performance at the venue, and she’s bringing Queens-born singer and songwriter Yaya Bey along for the ride. The genre-defying New York artist will take the stage on Friday, September 4, at 8 p.m. as part of a special hometown performance celebrating her career, music and New York roots. Tickets are $34.75, and the show is all ages.

Princess Nokia has built a reputation for doing things her own way, blending hip-hop, punk, soul and emo while creating music that explores identity, empowerment, spirituality and self-expression. For this particular show, fans can expect something a little different. According to Princess Nokia, the performance will serve as a musical retrospective spanning her albums and different eras throughout her career. She encouraged fans to join her for what she described as a night to remember as she celebrates her career and returns to her hometown.

Born Destiny Frasqueri, Princess Nokia is of Puerto Rican descent and has described herself as Afro-Indigenous. Her music and activism have made her a prominent voice for marginalized communities, with much of her work drawing from her experiences growing up in New York City. She has also been an outspoken advocate for intersectional feminism and LGBTQ+ rights and co-founded the Smart Girl Club, a collective focused on empowering women and conversations surrounding urban feminism and healthy living.

The concert takes place at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, located at 250 Bedford Park Blvd West in the Bronx. The show is all ages, making it an option for families with older kids and teens who want to experience a live performance together. There’s also a VIP perk for guests seated in Orchestra Rows A–J. Those ticket holders are invited to an exclusive VIP reception beginning at 6 p.m., two hours before the concert. The reception will take place in Lehman Center’s mezzanine cocktail bar and will include complimentary beverages and light bites.
