The excitement of the FIFA World Cup may have wrapped up, but its impact on New York City is just beginning. This summer, Bronx residents have the opportunity to help create a lasting piece of that legacy by painting one of two permanent community murals coming to the borough. The city has partnered with Groundswell Community Mural Project to create 12 permanent murals in parks across all five boroughs, celebrating community, culture, and the spirit of the World Cup. Designed by professional artists with input from local residents, the murals will become colorful public art installations that reflect the neighborhoods they call home.
Join the next Bronx Community Paint Day
The next opportunity for Bronx families, neighbors, and volunteers to get involved is:
Walton Playground
Thursday, July 23
10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
No artistic experience is necessary—community paint days are designed for everyone, making this a fun way for families, teens, and local residents to contribute to a meaningful public art project while leaving their mark on the neighborhood.
The Walton Playground mural is being led by artist Angel Garcia, one of two artists selected for the Bronx installations.
Two murals coming to the Bronx
The Bronx will be home to two of the city’s 12 murals:
- Walton Playground (Fordham Heights) – Lead Artist: Angel Garcia
- Franz Sigel Park (South Bronx) – Lead Artist: VASH
Each mural has been developed through a community-centered process, bringing together artists and neighborhood residents to create artwork that celebrates the unique identity of each location while honoring New York City’s role as a host of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
