Five exciting ways to celebrate the Bronx Zoo’s birthday

As you should know by now, the Bronx Zoo is celebrating 125 years! And you know we love a good party. To celebrate the big 125, the Zoo will be hosting fun events on the weekends now through September, but that’s not all. In addition to simply taking in more than 11,000 animals from around the world and enjoying time in nature, here are five exciting ways to celebrate the Bronx Zoo’s birthday:

Weekend Birthday Parties

Weekends will now be even more fun at the Bronx Zoo. Throughout the spring and summer on select weekends, head to the Bronx Zoo for fun parades, performances, crafts, Wildlife Theater and more. Each month will be a different theme:

  • June – Celebration of the award-winning Congo Gorilla Forest exhibit, 6/8, 6/9, 6/25, 6/16
  • July – Celebration of Big Cats, 7/13, 7/14, 7/20, 7/21
  • August – Celebration of Asia, 8/10, 8/11, 8/17, 8/18
  • Labor Day Weekend – Celebration of Africa, 8/31, 9/1, 9/2

As part of its birthday celebration, the Bronx Zoo also has a new immersive walking trail featuring 68 animal sculptures that tell the tale of the zoo’s history in saving species. The trail is FREE with your ticket and expert guides share the animal stories with you while you also have the chance to touch and feel the natural materials used to create the sculptures. We recommend visiting this first, to get you excited to see go visit the animals in real life after.

Wild Encounters Cart Tour

Walking around and exploring the Bronx Zoo is always fun, but if you want to feel a lil VIP, try out the Wild Encounters Cart Tour. Spend an hour with a knowledgeable host who will share insider information and amazing history highlights, as your group is escorted through award-winning exhibits.

Brew at the Zoo

The zoo isn’t just fun for the kids! Kick off summer at this adults-only, ages 21+ celebration on June 21st. Enjoy delicious food and drinks, live music, dancing, games, NEW entertainment and more. Your ticket includes access to Animal Chronicles and you can enjoy 125-themed games and activities.

After a spring and summer of fun, there’s still plenty of cool stuff happening at the Bronx Zoo this fall with 125-themed activities and displays at all beloved fall events.

Boo at the Zoo is the zoo’s daytime fall tradition. Get in the spirit with seasonal decor and Halloween festivities that come to life throughout the park on weekends during the month of October. The entertainment and activities are ideal for all ages, so its the perfect family outing with wildlife and loved ones.


Pumpkin Nights is the zoo’s nighttime Halloween event. After hours, an all animal-themed jack o’lantern trail illuminates the park. The storyline, how animals behave after dark, is brought to life through immersive foam pumpkin sculptures/scenes, music, and lighting to create an immersive experience for guests. The festive fall evening also includes food and entertainment.


Holiday Lights is the zoo’s annual family-centric holiday festival. During the evenings, the park comes to life with holiday cheer as immersive light displays, custom-designed animal lanterns and animated light shows sparkle across the zoo. The celebration is complete with festive entertainment, seasonal treats and classic holiday music. The walk-through experience is a beloved tradition, enchanting and fun for all ages.
