Unique experiences for spring break only at the Bronx Zoo

@WCS

This year, spring break for New York City public schools runs from April 22nd to the 30. So including weekends, we’re in for a ten day spring break. That means there is plenty of time to plan some fun things to do right here in the Bronx. With the Bronx being home to the largest park in NYC and home to the only freshwater river in the city, it’s the perfect place to spend time outdoors. And if you’re trying to decide on something to do that is fun for the whole family, the Bronx Zoo is always a hit.

Spring is a great time to visit the zoo, as seasonal exhibits and experiences reopen:

  • Congo Gorilla Forest: explore 6.5 acres and see gorillas, okapis, red river hogs, mandrills, and many other species
@WCS
  • Children’s Zoo Farmyard: kids enjoy petting and feeding sheep, alpacas, goats and more
  • Butterfly Garden: marvel over a dozen species of butterflies fluttering through the greenhouse and meadow
  • Budgie Landing: hold out your complimentary seed stick and watch these colorful birds come to you
  • Zoo Shuttle – see more of the expansive zoo by hopping aboard the trolly, allowing you to experience more exhibits during your visit like JungleWorld, Tiger Mountain and Madagascar!

A visit to the Bronx Zoo is also a great group outing activity because there is something for everyone. While simply enjoying time in nature while seeing animals from across the world is fun, the zoo has experiences for various ages. For those looking for a more hands-on experience with the animals, the Bronx Zoo’s Wild Encounters give you the chance to meet an amazing animal up close and learn from the experts who care for them.

For those who want to see a little more, but not that up close, consider catching a sea lion (3pm daily) or penguin feeding (3:30 pm daily).

For the little ones who want to let out some energy, head over to Nature Trek where they can navigate across bridges and balance beams, get a bird’s eye view of the park, and more.

It seems no matter how old the kids get, a ride on the Bug Carousel is always a must.

And for the older visitors, a stop for an iced cold beer at Zoo Brews is a great way to cool off as the warmer temps hit.

Lastly, a visit to the Bronx Zoo this spring is even more special as it’s during the zoo’s 125 year anniversary. So in addition to the seasonal experiences, you can also enjoy:

@WCS

Animal Chronicles – Explore the zoo’s immersive new walking trail featuring 68 eco-sculptures displayed across 13 scenes. Each scene tells the tale of how the zoo became a leader in caring for animals, saving endangered species, designing exhibits that connect people to nature, and protecting wildlife around the world.

Weekend Celebrations – On the last two weekends in April, enjoy parades, performances, crafting, Wildlife Theater, and much more to celebrate the zoo’s 125th milestone.

No matter how you plan to spend the upcoming break, we hope you’re able to fit in a visit to the Bronx Zoo. For more information, visit www.bronxzoo.com.
