Checking out brunch at Jalao NYC at the Radio Hotel

Brunch is the perfect excuse to sleep in late, make plans with friends, and eat delicious food- with a yummy cocktail to boot. So last weekend we checked out the new brunch service at Jalao NYC at the Radio hotel- right over the bridge from the Bronx. And to make it even more delish, their newly launched brunch service includes bottomless sangria, mimosas, or margaritas. If you are looking for brunch ideas in NYC, be sure to check out Jalao NYC. We love hitting up the Santo Domingo location whenever we are in the Dominican Republic, and their Washington Heights location is such a fun vibe.

We had the pleasure of meeting Chef Wilmer Chuquillanqui who does not disappoint on presentation- even the tres golpes is Instagram worthy. But don’t fret- the food tastes as good as it looks. Chef started us off with some goodies from the para compartir section, which means for sharing. We had the chicharrón & casabe, which is marinated crispy pork with casabe, caramelized “al caldero,” plantains and wasakaka sauce. It was cooked and flavored to perfection.

We also had the ahí tuna with chinola, mango, lime juice, and ginger- which came with plantain and yuca chips. So good! And our favorite surprise was the bombones de yuca- cheddar cheese yucca croquets with a chipotle-pineapple criolla sauce.

Next, Chef surprised us with a few dishes off the Especialdades portion of the menu. First up was the Brunch Chimi Burger with salchicha, shaved cabbage, fried egg, and fries. The burger was cooked to perfection, and the salchicha was a fun Dominican alternative to bacon. We then had the classic Dominican plato- tres golpes. Not sure how we made room, but we then sampled the tres leches infused guava french toast with seasonal fruits. I’m typically not a french toast gal, but this was the perfect amount of sweet.

Finally, we couldn’t leave without tasting Jalao’s not three but FIVE leches. Again, it did not disappoint. It wasn’t an easy job to try so much deliciousness in one sitting- but we made it happen. We overate so you could brunch.

So if you’re looking for a fun brunch idea in NYC, be sure to check out Jalao NYC’s new brunch offerings. We’ve come to love everything that the Radio Hotel has to offer, and now brunch at Jalao is on that list. To see the full menu offerings, visit www.jalaonyc.com/brunch.
