Vibrant staycation at the Radio Hotel in Washington Heights

We’re sure by now the vibrant colors of the Radio Hotel have caught your eye when driving through Washington Heights. This 221 room hotel is the first full-service boutique hotel in the Heights–and with modern rooms and a restaurant straight outta Santo Domingo downstairs, it’s the perfect staycation idea. The hotel and restaurant recently hosted me for an overnight stay, and it did not disappoint.

I’ve been to Jalao in the Colonial Zone in the Dominican Republic a handful of times, but I adore their Radio Hotel location. The decor is aesthetically pleasing and the dishes are all flavorful with a nice presentation. During my visit I enjoyed a sea bass ceviche and guacamole with plantain chips, followed by their oxtail dish. It did not disappoint. Unfortunately there was a light rain so we didn’t get to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful patio area, but the interior of the restaurant is just as nice.

When I say vibrant, I mean it. There are plenty of surprises throughout the hotel- like rolos (hair rollers) on the chandeliers in the lobby and painted staircases with images inspired by the culture of the surrounding Washington Heights neighborhood.

I stayed in room 1105- which had spectacular views from all windows. I was able to see the George Washington Bridge from my bed and a beautiful view of the Highbridge Water Tower and city from the living room area.

The weather was beautiful the following morning, so I enjoyed it sitting outside in the patio area. There are plenty of tables and lounge seating areas to simply sit and relax.

The outdoor bar opens at noon daily, so I couldn’t resist ordering a cocktail before heading home. I will definitely be back for some summer nights hanging out by the bar in the beautiful patio or grabbing a bite to eat at Jalao. The Radio Hotel has special offers throughout the year. Right now there is a Spring in the Heights, Mother’s Day weekend special, and an Opening Day package that includes a bucket of beers to enjoy while watching the neighboring Yankees play.
