Ways to enjoy Spring at the Bronx Zoo + membership discount

For most NYC kids, trips to the Bronx Zoo are simply part of childhood. Whether it be school field trips, family outings in the summer, or with a membership- almost all kids have memories of the Bronx Zoo. And for my youngest daughter Gia, she’s been lucky enough to visit the zoo with the same group of friends since she was a baby. It feels like just yesterday we were pushing our girls in their strollers through the zoo, and now they’re old enough to lead the way. So on our latest visit to the Bronx Zoo, we let them do just that.

Bronxmama wants to make sure the Bronx Zoo is part of your children’s memories too- so we’re sharing everything you need to know about Spring at the Bronx Zoo PLUS we have a special Bronxmama promo code to save 15% off membership!

The great thing about being a member of the Bronx Zoo is that you don’t have to feel like you need to cram the entire park into one visit. Now that the girls are older, it’s fun to let them lead the way and spend as much time as they want at each exhibit.

After the pretty dull winter we just had, getting outside is so important for our physical and mental health. According to Cornell researchers, just 10 minutes can improve your mental health and well being. And with 10,000 animals, spanning 700 species with 265 acres of hardwood forest, the Bronx Zoo is a perfect place to get outside and enjoy.

Spring is a great time to visit the Bronx Zoo because some of Gia’s favorite attractions have opened as of April 1st (weather permitting):

  • Children’s Zoo*
  • Butterfly Garden*
  • Zoo Shuttle
  • Treetop Adventure

Note: The Wild Asia Monorail opens on April 29th

Our first spot was Congo Gorilla Forest. We spent quite a bit of time here, the girls couldn’t get enough of watching how playful each gorilla was. They also enjoyed venturing through the rainforest and spotting red river hogs, guenons and mandrills- and an Okapi- which looks like it’s related to the zebra but it’s actually related to a giraffe!

After lunch, Gia and her friends wanted to hit up JungleWorld. The girls loved spotting otters and cute white-cheeked gibbon swing across vines.

Next up was a visit to Nature Trek- a village built in the trees where kids get to navigate through tunnels, cross bridges, walk over balance beams and weave through obstacles. I love that at ten years old, Gia and her friends can still enjoy simply being kids- climbing, playing in the sand, and building forts and animal habitats.

Gia and her friends also stopped for a ride on the Bug Carousel, grabbed some Dippin’ Dots, and used their money to buy a goodie from the gift shop. On their next visit they plan to stop by the Children’s Zoo to feed alpaca, sheep, and goats. And after their time in Nature Trek, they said they’re ready to hit up Treetop Adventure and zipline across the Bronx River.

Regardless of what changes- new friends that join or baby brothers being born- the Bronx Zoo will forever be part of our girl’s childhood memories. And we want to make sure you can make it a part of yours by sharing a special promo code for 15% off membership. Use code BRONXMAMA15 to save on Family Zoos PLUS membership by visiting here.
