While it hasn’t felt much like winter, NYC public schools are closed from February 20 to February 24 for mid-winter recess. If you haven’t made plans to escape the city, we’ve got you covered with some fun ideas to stay busy during mid-winter recess in the Bronx.
Celebrate Kids Week with NYC Parks

Every year, you can bring your kids to parks throughout the city for Kids Week during the break. The Urban Park Rangers will host events throughout the week where kids will get to experience nature in a hands-on and fun way. There will be events in Van Cortlandt Park, Crotona Nature Center, and Pelham Bay Park. Ages 12 and under. See more here.
Drop in for a free art class at The Point

Every Wednesday, The Point CDC hosts a free drop-in art class for ages 13 and up. The class provides a range of creative art activities, including painting, drawing, printmaking, and collage, for individuals to engage in. This is an excellent opportunity to try out new art mediums and socialize with other artists. 13 and above recommended. See more here.
Check out the Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden

The Orchid show returns to the New York Botanical Garden on Saturday February 18 and runs through April 23. See thousands of orchids designed this year by artist Lily Kwong, who happens to be a former student of the garden’s adult education program! There are also special Orchid Nights for parents who might want to return on a date night. See more here.
Get up close and personal with an animal at the Bronx Zoo

A visit to the Bronx Zoo is always on our list for fun things to do in the Bronx, but did you know you and your family can experience fun up-close encounters with different animals from around the world? This interactive and educational experience offers experiences with everything from camels to penguins! Bronxmama readers can use code BMWILD to save 15% off tickets now through March 1.
