
New York City public beaches and pools need lifeguards this summer. Register now for the qualifying test for an NYC Parks lifeguard.
As an NYC Parks Lifeguard, you’ll:
- Work at Some of NYC’s Most Iconic Locations
Lifeguards work five or six days each week. Work locations include the beautiful oceanfront in the Rockaways, historic Coney Island, and the only floating pool in North America! - Become Part of a Team
Make friends for a lifetime who are also committed to public service. - Get Your Certification
Earn your NYC Parks lifeguard certification, and learn CPR, first-aid, and rescue techniques. - Practice Your Swimming
Get access to all of our City’s indoor pools to strengthen your swimming skills.
The Parks department will train individuals interested in becoming a lifeguard this summer. There are three steps:
- Pass the qualifying test. Click here to register for the test. For the first time, there are skills clinics available to help folks prepare for the test.
- Once you pass the qualifying test, your training to become an NYC Parks Lifeguard begins. You’ll develop your swimming skills, learn lifesaving techniques, and receive your certification to become an NYC Parks Lifeguard. Lifeguard Training is a 16-week program that consists of 40 hours of training, a CPR course, and final swimming tests.
