Looking for something fun and adventurous to do in the Bronx? Grab some friends and head to the Bronx Zoo for an afternoon of climbing and zipping along the trees at the Bronx Zoo’s Treetop Adventure. I recently visited with some friends for the Climb & Zip experience- an aerial ropes course along with a 400 foot zipline ride across the Bronx River and back.
We checked in for our reservation time and headed over to get suited up and throw our stuff in the lockers. Phone pouches are available for purchase if you want to be able to bring it along with you. We then went to the training course to learn the ropes- pun intended. An instructor showed us how to hook and unhook our harnesses as we make our way through the course before having us complete two small obstacles. We were then ready to head to the course of our choosing!
We decided to do the Intermediate Course 2, which features:
- 2 Ziplines
- Balance Log
- Spider Web Cargo
- Asymmetrical Ladder
- Rolling Sled
- Zig Zag Walk
- Triangle Pass
- 2 Jungle Vines
- Solid Stroll
- Skyak
This course was challenging but a lot of fun. It was also a great bonding experience. Altogether there are seven courses- the Beginner courses are perfect for the whole family and just require adult supervision for ages 7-17. For the other courses, some ages require an adult to escort them and some just require an adult to be nearby to supervise.
Being that my good friend Andre is a firefighter, he opted to do the Expert course- the Rattle Snake. This course requires a lot of upper body strength and features:

- Burma Bridge
- Flying Trapeze
- Coconut Ladder
- Trotting Bridget
- Rock Walls
- Tarzan Swing
- See-Saw Bridge
- Giant’s Ladder

After my friend completed the Rattle Snake course, we headed off to zipline across the Bronx River and back. It was the perfect way to end the day and enjoy a beautiful view after all of our hard work on the course.
Overall our group had an amazing afternoon trying something different than our usual Sunday brunch routine. We loved that there are different courses for different skill levels and we got to spend the afternoon cheering each other on. It was a great bonding experience and it was fun to look back at the photos and videos we took afterwards.
The Climb & Zip ticket is valid for 2.5 hours. Participants can usually complete 2-3 courses in that time frame. There is also an option for just ziplining, or for ziplining and a visit to the zoo.
