It’s FINALLY starting to feel like Spring! So as the weather heats up and we crave even more time outdoors, it’s the perfect chance to check out Bronx Zoo Dinosaur Safari. This fun attraction is back- and bigger and better than ever! My daughter Gia and I recently had a chance to head to the zoo to see it for ourselves- so follow along to see what to expect!

This year, Bronx Zoo Dinosaur Safari is a walk-through experience. This gives visitors more time to stop to take photos and enjoy 52 life-sized animatronic© dinosaurs and pterosaurs along the way. They make for plenty of selfie opps for you and your little dino lovers.

You can’t enjoy a day of dinos without fossils!

Stop and dig for ancient fossils! Learn all about fossils from dino guides and what they can tell us. In this area you can also touch dinosaur bone casts and compare how ginormous their bones were in comparison to ours.

Make sure you look up! You don’t want to miss the largest flying animal to ever live – the Quetzalcoatlus! Be sure to also use the Digital Field Guide to learn all about the dinosaurs you’ll see – like how to pronounce their names, the meaning behind their names, fun facts and more.

Gia has been a dinosaur lover since she was tiny- she even had a dino-themed 3rd birthday party. So when she had the opportunity to interact with dino guides along the way, she was excited to learn interesting facts about her favorite dinosaurs. Like- did you know that the T-Rex could actually see really far? Up to three miles in fact! Kids can also participate in fun games with the guides.

The fun doesn’t stop inside the safari area. There are also plenty of dino-related activities happening throughout the zoo, like special programming on June 11 and 12 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the World of Birds exhibit. In July and August, there will be puppet shows from Professor Jurassic and a fun musical that shows the connection between ancient dinosaurs and today’s birds.

After leaving the prehistoric jungle, head out to visit the rest of the zoo and see what modern-day dinosaurs you can find. Hint: birds! But be sure to stop by this fun dino-themed kiosk. There are cute stuffed animals, fossil kits, and even some cute jewelry that I was eyeing for myself.
