The holidays are all about traditions. For my family, some of those include creating a gratitude activity each year for Thanksgiving, making traditional Italian cookies for Christmas Eve, and now our annual trip to The Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights! We recently had a chance to kick off the holidays with a trip to Holiday Lights, and it was just what we needed to spend time with family and friends this season. With a nine and fifteen year old, it’s not always easy to find things that both of our kids enjoy- but there is just something nostalgic about Holiday Lights that gets even the most Scrooge of teens singing Christmas carols and admiring the lights. This year’s Holiday Lights sparkle across 12 acres of the zoo, making it a safe way to celebrate this holiday season. This year’s event includes the following fun activities and entertainment:

We started the night over at Astor Court where we enjoyed festive animal themed stilt walkers alongside color-changing trees and holiday music. Astor Court is magical with all of the lights, and there is also a fun holiday train for the little ones to enjoy.
After a stop at the Wildlife Theater and a ride on the carousel, we walked over to enjoy the Oceans Lantern Safari by the Butterfly Garden. These brightly colored animal lanterns are so cool to see, and make for some great photo opps too!
There are six illuminated lantern safaris to enjoy throughout Holiday Lights- with the new addition of Forest of Color, featuring 21 larger-than-life lanterns of species that sport some of the brightest colors on earth. We ended the night roasting marshmallows to make yummy s’mores before heading home. It was the perfect outing to get us in the holiday spirit!
