Free Summer Science Program for Bronx Girls

The CityParks Green Girls Empowered by ING Summer Institute is a Science program that engages up to 40 middle school girls, ages 10-13, in five weeks of fun-filled outdoor adventures. Girls in grades 6th through 8th are invited to become a Green Girl in this in-person CityParks Green Girls Empowered by ING Summer Institute program at Shoelace Park in the Bronx.  Register is open now.

Kicking off on July 6th, this weekly program transforms their local park into a hands-on laboratory. From canoeing to conducting science experiments, bird-watching to studying climate change, Green Girls explore the dynamic ecosystems found around them in the Bronx. Students in the program also learn more about future careers in the sciences.

This year, because of the pandemic related changes, Green Girls will have a particular opportunity to focus on how climate change is affecting our city and our future. Students will learn about the history of climate action and how young people have advocated for the environment. The Green Girls will take part in this advocacy as a group.

Registration is open with morning and afternoon sessions available this summer. Safety protocols will be in place to ensure everyone is comfortable. Capacity is limited for safety so sign up now!
