
We’re so excited that free opportunities to canoe, sail, and bird watch have returned to Hunts Point Riverside Park thanks to Rocking the Boat! Rocking the Boat is a non-profit organization in the South Bronx dedicated to help kids set and achieve their goals. Rocking the Boat is committed to helping its participants:
This summer they are returning after the pandemic to hold rowing events every Saturday during the summer. In order to register please contact publicprograms@rockingtheboat.org. Additionally, they are holding a few sailing events during the summer. Lastly, bird watching events will be held as well this summer. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. - Stay in high school until they graduate or receive an equivalency diploma
- Enroll in college or trade school and be prepared academically and emotionally to succeed there
- Develop technical skills such as sailing, boat handling, navigating, chart reading, carpentry, sample collection and testing, scientific observation, and recording data, all of which reinforce STEM concepts and put them into a practical context
- Develop soft skills such as leadership, communication, teamwork, problem solving, and critical thinking
Rocking the Boat launched in 1996. The organization’s goal is to help assist those who want to have a STEM major. The have many outdoor events in Hunts Point including rowing, sailing, and bird watching. The organization’s tagline is “kids don’t just build boats, boats build kids”.
