The kids off from school but no time to plan anything? Don’t stress it! Not every outing needs to be a ticketed event or far away destination. Here are some last minute ways to enjoy Spring Break in the Bronx:
Enjoy a hike at Van Cortlandt Park
Pack a book bag with water and snacks and follow the trails at Van Cortlandt Park. Enjoy hiking to the highest point of the park, with views of Manhattan in the distance. After, enjoy lunch at nearby Mon Amour Coffee & Wine Bar.
Get some friends together and ride up and down the mile-long boardwalk at Orchard Beach. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the sand or bring some burgers to throw on the grill in the designated grilling areas.
No need to travel far when you can visit animals from around the world in your own backyard. Head to the Bronx Zoo and enjoy the outdoors, get some much needed exercise, and a full day unplugged. Don’t forget, Bronxmama readers can use promo code BRONXMAMA20 to receive 20% off Membership Plus, which pays for itself in one visit.
Where else can you enjoy a boat ride with views for the price of a Metrocard? Head to the Soundview ferry landing and hop on NYC Ferry to enjoy views of the East River and Manhattan skyline. If you’re just in it for the boat ride, grab a ferry back at last stop at Wall Street- or plan a fun day out. You can hop off at 90th street, 34th street, or Wall Street from the Soundview ferry- or transfer and head to Queens or Brooklyn. The possibilities are endless. Head to Dollar Tree and grab some pots or cute metal garden buckets, planting soil, and seeds. Then head to the crafting section and grab colorful rocks and other cute items to decorate your garden. Meet up in the park, a backyard, or indoors and let the kids create their own fairy gardens then wait for them to sprout in the coming weeks!
These are just a few ideas to create your own Spring Break fun in the Bronx. With the largest park in NYC and plenty of places to grab a delicious lunch outdoors, it’s easy to plan an impromptu outing with the kids. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have fun- head to the dollar store for chalk, jump ropes, bubbles, and kites. Enjoy the break!
