Every year, the Bronx River Alliance hosts a fundraiser called the Bronx River Flotilla, where participants have the opportunity to canoe 5 miles down the Bronx River while simultaneously raising funds for the river. While the pandemic might be changing things up- it still isn’t stopping the alliance from finding a way to keep the Flotilla going- only this time it will be in the form of a three-part virtual guided tour.
Here’s more about the 2020 Virtual Bronx River Flotilla:
Come with us as we travel the length of the Bronx River, exploring three unique facets of the river’s identity; its ecology, its history, and its recent development and reclamation.
On July 18th, join us as Director of Environmental Stewardship Michelle Luebke and Ecology Coordinator Christian Murphy traverse the upper river, exploring and sharing its ecological wonders and environmental infrastructure
On July 25th, join Recreation Coordinator Rodrick Bell and local historian Steven DeVillo as they delve into the rich indigenous and modern history of the middle river.
On August 1st, join Greenway Manager Jonah Garnick and Greenway Team Co-Chair Twahira Khan as they explore the lower river and estuary, and discuss the recent efforts to reclaim and redevelop the Bronx River Corridor.
Interested in helping to fundraise for this event? Form a fundraising team!
A designated captain will take the lead in forming a team of 6 people to fundraise for the event. Each individual will commit to fundraising a total of $350 per person or $2,100 per team. Teams that reach the fundraising minimum will be able to schedule a socially distanced private paddling experience in the late summer/early fall! We will support you in reaching your fundraising goal by providing you with your very own online fundraising webpage to spread the word to family, friends and social networks.
If you’re interested in donating to our team rather than creating your own, we would appreciate your donation HERE!
