While the pandemic has certainly changed our 2020 goals, there are still ways to safely create summer memories. After several months of being home in the city, it’s understandable that many families are looking for escapes that allow them to still safely socially distance. At around 1.5 to 2 hours away, the Poconos is a great option for families looking to get away.
As of June 19th, all 4 counties in the Pocono Mountain region will be officially reopened, with various restrictions. The Poconos Tourism website is updated frequently with the latest information for visitors at www.poconomountains.com.
While we suggest calling each specific destination for exact information, here are a few ideas for an escape to the Poconos this summer:
Glamp or Rent a Cabin at the Shawnee Inn
If you’ve read our post on glamping at the Shawnee Inn, then you know this is a must-do! Book a bell tent on the riverside or the island at the historic Shawnee Inn. Spend the day exploring the river, hiking, and cooling off in the pool before ending the night by the fire. It’s a great way to get out, but still feel secluded as we find ways to continue social distancing this summer. Learn more here.
Go Camping, Glamping, or Rent a Cottage at Keen Lake
Keen Lake Camping & Cottage Resort is open with restrictions to keep you and your family safe. There is still swimming in the lake and pool- with capacity limitations on the pool. Check out all of the lodging options available for this summer at www.keenlake.com.
Plan an Outdoor Adventure
If you’re not ready to stay overnight, many parts of the Poconos are within an 1.5 hour drive- which makes for a fun day trip idea. There are lots of hiking trails and other outdoor fun to explore. Check out the Outdoor Adventure page on the Pocono Mountains tourism website to plan your visit!
