The Bronx Children’s Museum introduced ArtSpot to Mill Pond Park last month, an art making festival for children ages 3-9 and their caregivers. Presented as a series of four consecutive Saturdays, ArtSpot is filled with fun STEAM-based art activities and experiences. The theme of the first weekend was “Growing and Building Together” inspired by the Museum’s “Waters On the Go” suitcase exhibit which focuses on the natural flora found in the Bronx. Children and caregivers stopped by throughout the day to engage in activities that included bridge building, pattern drawing, nature collages, natural habitat terrariums and traditional folk dancing. The second weekend featured water-themed activities to demonstrate how “Water Connects Us All.” Children learned about the cycle of water, built boats from recycled materials, created abstract watercolor artwork and built their own “rain cloud” jars.
The festival is from 11am to 4 pm and runs another two Saturdays. The themes for the remaining two weekends of the art festival will be “Life Cycles and Metamorphosis” and “Animal Adaptations Everywhere.”
