If you’re looking for a unique staycation or even just day trip idea in NYC, then look no further than the TWA Hotel. We just spent the day at their rooftop pool and let’s just say it was beyond fun. After opening at the beginning of the summer, the hotel is such a fun blast into the past- complete with a rooftop pool overlooking the runway at JFK and a bar inside an old TWA plane. We decided to grab day passes to check out the fun, but will definitely be back for an overnight stay.
As soon as you pull up to the TWA Hotel, you’ve gone back into time. With a retro design and vintage cars sprinkled around the hotel, there are plenty of fun photo opps throughout. Valet parking is available, and validated at some of the restaurants and rooftop pool bar for up to two hours- but let’s face it– you’re going to just pay the $48 parking because you won’t want to leave. Or save the money and take the Q44 from the Bronx and jump on the airtrain for a cheaper option.
The decor isn’t the only vintage feature of the hotel- be prepared for pilot and flight attendant sightings during your visit. The staff is also beyond friendly- making this time traveling experience that much better.
Be sure to check out the seating area in the center of the lobby, with a view of the vintage TWA plane- which houses a bar.
Once you hop off the elevators for the rooftop, you’ll be greeted by friendly staff who check any large bags, and give out complimentary pool towels. Registered hotel guests have free access to the pool, and day passes are available for purchase for non-guests.
There is pretty much no shade on the rooftop- so be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen to reapply throughout the day. Tables are available to hotel guests, or can be reserved by non-guests with a $50 minimum food and/or beverage purchase.
After your time at the pool, head outside of the hotel to the Connie- a 1958 Lockheed Constellation airplane complete with a cocktail lounge.
For guests visiting with kids, they’ll have the chance to sip on Shirley Temples and even check out the cockpit. Read more about Connie’s history.
Whether you’re visiting for the day or as an overnight guest, the TWA Hotel is a fun adventure for all. Visit as a family or make it an adult-only getaway. For more information, visit www.twahotel.com.
