This past weekend we celebrated my youngest’s 7th birthday. With an end of May birthday, it can certainly be tricky when it comes to the weather- but we took a chance and went with a fun Palm Springs outdoor theme. It was a big hit among both the adults and kids- so I wanted to share some of the fun!
I came up with the theme when thinking about less cheesy tropical ideas, and immediately saw there is a ton of cute decor out there to make my vision come to life. Of course, being that it was a kids party, I did use a lot of fun colors so that it wasn’t too grown up. For the kid’s table, I ordered palm leaves, pineapple cups, and paper straws from Amazon. I picked up some pretty pink plastic plates and faux cacti from the Dollar Tree, and some pretty faux flowers from a local 99 cents store. Of course, I topped the table off with some real pineapples from my local supermarket.
For the adults tables, I got these cute assorted pool drink floats from Amazon also. It was the perfect way for adults to find their drinks. I had some cute trays that I had picked up at the Dollar Tree for food and dips. And some cute colorful bowls I grabbed in the dollar section at Target.
Since it was a hot day, I didn’t have a cake table. But we did have a fun beverage station! I made a delicious white wine sangria for the adults, along with some fun coconut flavored soda. In the cooler we had juices and waters for the kids. I used more of the decorative palm leaves from Amazon to decorate above the bar, and put the drinks inside of some cute galvanized buckets I grabbed from the Target dollar section. The battery string lights are also from Target dollar section, and the drink dispenser is from a local Bronx restaurant supply store.
I absolutely loved how the Coco Rico soda went along with the theme- but also how refreshing it is!
I also picked up a cute inflatable pool from the local 99 cents store for the kids to cool off in- which just so happened to match the theme perfectly. I also ordered a palm tree sprinkler from Amazon. And for fun, I got a cute flamingo float on Amazon that the kids had fun putting inside the tiny pool and sitting on.
When planning parties, I love to order things that can be used again. Using a pool and floats for both the fun and the decor was great- as they will now be used all summer. The pineapple cups and drink floats double as party favors, and the pineapples will get eaten!
For food, I kept it simple by making pulled pork in the crockpot the night before, and just making hot dogs and shrimp and pineapple kabobs on the grill. We also had mac and cheese, cole slaw, and a pasta salad as sides.
We ended the night by roasting marshmallows by the fire and letting the kids stay up way past their bedtimes. It was the perfect day!
