My City, My Song at Carnegie Hall

Last weekend we had a chance to check out the child-friendly concert at Carnegie Hall entitled My City, My Song. The participatory concert gave children and their families the opportunity to discover music from different parts of the world, and it did not disappoint. The afternoon consisted of Greek folk music with Magda Giannikou, Malian traditional music with Yacouba Sissoko, and Indian classical music with Grammy Award nominee for best Children’s Abum Falu Shah.

We absolutely loved the concert. Living in a city as diverse as NYC, it was a special moment to have so many nationalities in one theater celebrate the music of different countries. Not only did children have the chance to dance along, they also taught some of the lyrics to sing along also. And the moments when the music of all three artists were blended was particularly special.
