Spring Baptism Celebration Using Decor From Oriental Trading

Last month, both of my daughters were baptized. It was a beautiful ceremony during Sunday mass with a few other families and then a small family gathering afterwards. I wanted to take something simple and make it beautiful, so after church we headed to a nearby historical library where I set up a table for a family style dinner. The library itself is beautiful, so I chose very neutral colors and decor to compliment the venue. With the help of Oriental Trading, my own decor, thrift store finds, and a few borrowed items from friends- it was a beautiful afternoon celebrating our daughters.

The Table

I knew I wanted to do one long table down the center of the library for a family style dinner set up. So I lined three long wood tables together and used large rolled burlap from Oriental Trading to go down the center. I then placed shabby chic lace paper placemats at each place setting. I used basic clear plastic plates with silver disposable cutlery on top of burlap and lace luncheon napkins– also from OT.

For the centerpieces, I placed mason and glass jars from the thrift store with fresh flowers from a local flower wholesale store. I chose light spring colors that would pop with the neutral tones, but not overpower the colors of all of the vintage books in the background.

We created a wine bar using a small table in front of a bookshelf, with larger bottles on top of the shelving. No amount of decor could have topped the look that the vintage books gave this area.

The cake was ordered from a local bakery and placed on a cake stand I already had. I also printed out a photo from Easter of the girls and framed it in a thrift store frame to place near the cake.

For the favors, I wanted to continue on the Spring theme with plants. So I ordered succulents and re-potted them in ceramic mini flowerpots. I then found cute floral labels which I looped around a toothpick and stuck inside the pots. I placed a birdcage and a metal gardening sign behind them and then used pretty boxwood garland to string from both the favor table and cake table.
