I don’t know about you, but this unusually warm weather in the middle of winter unleashed my spring cleaning early this year. I’ve found myself purging, deep cleaning, and doing some updates throughout the apartment. One place I’ve been wanting to focus on is my bedroom. We’ve had the same black iron headboard for years, and have usually just changed up the comforter each season. But when I decided we needed a good pair of black out curtains, it was the perfect time to finally make some changes.
After already changing the curtains in my living room to black out curtains from Eclipse, I decided to find ones I liked for the bedroom. Immediately I fell in love with this Nadya print in Smokey Blue. However, since I have never done a print before when it comes to bedroom curtains, I was hesitant to choose something that isn’t as easy to match decor to. But with spring coming soon, I decided to take the chance.
Immediately I noticed how my black iron headboard against the new curtains just did not work. I had already been considering buying a new headboard as I wanted a change- but I decided to try painting it first. I love both shabby chic and rustic looks- so I knew I’d like the look of white iron. I purchased a bottle of spray paint and a can of paint and painted both the headboard and a side table I had scored at the Salvation Army for 12 bucks. I love the end results.
I also painted a mirror that a friend was throwing out. It was originally a dark brown – now the white against my dresser color is a great contrast. Now all I need is to find the perfect rug and a new throw once winter is over!
What are some changes you’re thinking about in your home? Before throwing out and replacing certain pieces- try re-purposing or changing the paint color and bringing new life to your older furniture and decor. And sometimes all it takes is a new set of curtains to give a room a new look. We love the black out curtain options from Eclipse- which can be found online at Target and other online retailers. They have lots of beautiful prints, and even light colors that many might not associate with black out curtains, but are still great at blocking out light and cooling down the room in the warmer months. Share your DIYs and decor inspiration with us! We’d love to feature some on Bronxmama!
