Well, the Bronx River can’t talk. But that’s okay- it has the  Bronx River Alliance speaking out for it. And here are three ways you can help the Bronx River in 2017, courtesy of the Alliance’s latest newsletter:

3 ways to help the Bronx River in 2017

1. Reduce litter: In 2016, through Project WASTE, (for more info check 2016 highlights) we found that containers made of Styrofoam are the most common litter found in the river. You can help reduce floatables by becoming part of NYC’s B.Y.O. (Bring Your Own) movement today and improve the Bronx River & NYC!
2. Volunteer with us: There are many different opportunities to volunteer with us in 2017–office volunteers digitizing historical photos, supporters at our annual events like the Amazing Bronx River Flotilla, Bronx River Stewards involved in project WASTE, monitoring water quality on the river, joining our restoration projects, or assisting our recreation program with paddling trips or co-leading a historical tour along the Bronx River. Join us in 2017 and help restore, protect, and improve the Bronx River.
3. Recycle your holiday tree: Join Mulchfest 2017 by bringing your tree to Soundview Park or any other designated city park and have it recycled it into mulch that will nourish plantings across the city and along the Bronx River. You can even take some mulch home. Join Saturday, January 7 or Sunday, January 8 from 10am to 2pm. To find the location closest to you click here.
