Like most children, I couldn’t wait for Christmas morning as a child. I was so excited to leave out the cookies I made for Santa and wake up to a tree surrounded by presents. Now as an adult, I still love the holidays- but I’m in no rush for the day to actually arrive. I cherish each day that is filled with that magical holiday spirit- the many Christmas events, the crafts, the endless items to cross of our bucket list each year. I know that before I know it, the pretty wrapping paper will be in shreds all over the living room floor, my excitement to see everyone’s faces as they open their gifts will be over, and the world will have moved on to their long lists of New Years resolutions.
One way I like to teach this patience and appreciation of each day to my children are through advent calendars. Each day is a fun little treat that leads up to one big surprise. My current favorite one for kids are the PLAYMOBIL Advent Calendars. Each set is comprised of different pieces that are added to an included background scene until the last day, when the whole set is complete and ready to play with.
