It’s officially summertime in the Bronx! School finished yesterday, and the free outdoor pools open today all over the city. So grab your bathing suit, your lock, and head to your nearest public pool. Below is a list of Bronx outdoor pool locations and some quick tips to know before you go.

What You Should Know:

  • Bathing suits are required to enter all pools. That means boys/men must have liners inside their shorts. If you want to cover up- be sure it’s a white shirt or white hat to help shield you from the sun.
  • Locks are required to enter- no luggage locks. If you’re driving and want to just walk in without bringing any personal belongings, we’ve done this before (don’t hold us to this!) – but locks are required to store your stuff.
  • Swim diapers are required for all babies/toddlers. They will check!
  • No food or glass bottles allowed inside the pool area- but feel free to lock your lunch box in the locker. Remember though- there are free lunches at participating NYC parks and other locations- so kids can grab a lunch bag and sit in their designated area for eating if you end up staying for lunch time.

What We Love:

The public pools may have a lot of rules, but it’s to keep our pools safe, clean, and running smoothly. Don’t forget there are free swimming lessons available at most of the pools, which take place before the pool opens to the public. We also love the pools that are inside of parks, especially where grilling is allowed. This makes for the perfect afternoon of bbqing and pool time.
