Free: The School of American Ballet presents Beauty of Ballet



The School of American Ballet will present a free, family-friendly program that will illustrate how students develop into accomplished classical ballet dancers and reveal the secrets behind dancing on your toes, turning like a top without getting dizzy, and jumping high in the air at “The Beauty of Ballet” presentation on Saturday, February 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture, 450 Grand Concourse at 149th Street in the Bronx.


School of American Ballet faculty member Katrina Killian (a former New York City Ballet soloist) and advanced students from SAB will showcase examples of advanced classroom training exercises and perform excerpts from notable ballets including The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, andSwan Lake, performed to live music.


The School of American Ballet, founded 82 years ago by legendary choreographer George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, is the premier ballet academy in the United States and trains more students who become professional ballet dancers than any other American school. SAB’s former students fill the ranks of the New York City Ballet and other leading U.S. and international ballet companies. The School, which is headquartered at Lincoln Center in Manhattan, has been presenting annual free family programs in the Bronx for the past three years.
