SUN, AUGUST 23 NATURE WALK: DRAGONFLIES AND DAMSELFLIES
Insects may be tiny, but their activity enlivens the garden with color, sound and movement. This summer, tag along with our visiting naturalists as they hunt for creatures that soar and sing above Wave Hill. Each special weekend begins with an insect-themed Family Art Project in the morning and continues with a nature walk in the afternoon. Can you tell a dragonfly from a damselfly? Environmental educators from the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum offer a short, indoor presentation, then lead a family-friendly walk to net and identify some of these iridescent insects for a close-up look before they are released back to nature. Children ages 10 and older welcome with an adult. This event is free with admission to the grounds, but. Since space is limited, registration is recommended, online at wavehill.org or onsite at the Perkins Visitor Center. Wings over Wave Hill event.

WED, AUGUST 26 STORIES IN THE GARDEN: HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?
Each week, Wave Hill educators share some of their favorite nature tales. These stories—classics and more—come to life through interactive readings, sing-alongs and puppetry. All gardens bloom first in the imagination of their gardeners. This week, tour three fantastical landscapes: a salamander room, a flowering railway and a garden planted with chocolate bunnies and jelly-bean trees. Our reading selection this week: My Garden by Kevin Henkes, The Curious Garden by Peter Brown and The Salamander Room by Anne Mazer. Programs are held outdoors in good weather; in Wave Hill House in inclement weather. Ideal for children ages three to six with an adult. Free with admission to the grounds.
