In addition to the fun performances taking place at the zoo, How Does Our Garden Grow? will still be in full effect with lots of gardening fun for the whole family.

This summer the zoo has developed a sustainable garden to introduce families to the importance of sustainable gardening and health eating for humans and wildlife. The garden includes:

-Butterfly Garden – A wildflower garden that provides information on pollination and the role of butterflies and bees in growing flowers

-A “learn how to grow” garden – This area is a place for children to rake, dig, and plant seeds on an ongoing basis – it is not designed to grow, but rather to help children understand the tools and processes of gardening.

-Vegetable Garden – This garden is designed to grow vegetables that both animals and human eat. It will teach visitors about the importance of sustainable practices, composting, natural fertilizers and pesticides, the concept of “locally grown,” carbon reduction, the importance of taking care of living things and consuming healthy, non-processed, locally grown foods.

-Compost Location – compost bins that are created and used throughout the summer.

Dates: Daily

Times 11:ooam – 4:00pm

Location: Mouse House Lawn

If you thought the grand re-opening fun was over, think again as the summer months are filled with more activities for children to enjoy. Throughout July kids can create their own nature inspired nature mobiles using all kinds of materials. For August, kids will create their own 3-dimensional dioramas of animals in hiding.
