Kids Cooking for a Brighter Future in the Bronx

kidscookingThis week we are highlighting an amazing culinary program right here in the South Bronx. Coqui the Chef teaches young people and their families in the South Bronx how to cook healthier meals with ingredients right from their kitchen. Similar to Barney and Friends and Dora the Explorer, Coqui the Chef uses a fun, friendly mascot to teach children the importance of building healthy habits through cooking and nutrition classes. This program coincides perfectly with the current #not62 campaign that recently kicked off in the Bronx- which the goal is to get the Bronx healthier!

See what they are all about:

Coqui the Chef’s social mission is to empower kids to live healthier lives where nutritious foods are not always readily available and they suffer from high levels of obesity and diabetes. Kids Cooking for a Brighter Future is an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for more cooking classes and produce a cooking show. To share or support, visit the fundraising page at Indiegogo.

We love the idea that children who learn how to cook can then make healthy choices- it’s up to programs like this to teach them the way. We’d love to see the cooking show come to life so that our children here in the Bronx can see kids from right here in the Bronx show them how to eat healthy, cook delicious food, and show parents how to empower their children.

  1. Great post, cooking can be a good way to get children to eat new things and it can be a good tool to teach them healthy good habits.

  2. Love this post, I started my children for cooking at a very young age. I hope they would be making dinner soon instead of me.
