Celebrating the Children’s Zoo at the Bronx Zoo

May is such an awesome month here in the Bronx. Summer is around the corner, Bronx Week was packed full of events, and we are also so excited that the grand re-opening celebrations of the Children’s Zoo at the Bronx Zoo are kicking off this weekend!

Children’s Zoo Grand Opening Weekend

On May 30th-31st, there will be lots of excitement to celebrate the opening of the Children’s Zoo- with plenty of visitor experiences taking place. Here’s a closer look at what’s happening as part of the fun:

The Official Opening Ceremony kicks off on May 30th at 11:00 am with special guest Peppa Pig . Children can also pick up a free “Peppa” bookmark when entering the zoo. Brendan Wenzel, the artist for the Children’s Zoo will be on hand to draw illustrations and sign copies of books.

Then, in honor of their 100th anniversary, the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club will provide some great performances, which include:

• Chorus performing Broadway and other popular favorites

• African Dancers & Drumming

• Latin Salsa Dancers

 

There will also be performances by:

Bambayo 

• Casita Maria Chorus

 

Themed Tours Every Half Hour

The fun continues for the entire weekend with Canon Quest Experience themed tours through the Children’s zoo from 11:00am –3:00pm

Peppa Pig will be greeting fans both Saturday and Sunday at 11:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. Don’t forget your cameras for fun photos! Children will also have the chance to make their own Peppa mask!

Book Signing

Author Brendan Wenzel will be present for a book signing for his new book, Some Bugs this weekend.

Theater Time

Catch ReUsable the Musical at the Asia Theater, a puppet musical that helps everyone appreciate how important it is to refuse, re-use, recycle, reduce and

remember to help sustain our fragile planet and biodiversity. Produced and directed by John Tartaglia of Imaginocean and Henson’s Dinosaur Train!
