First Fridays! Bronx StorySLAM

7:00pm to 10:00pm

Join us for a Bronx StorySLAM in collaboration with The Moth. Arrive by 7pm for the opportunity to put your name in The Moth “hat” and take the stage. Register early for this popular and well-attended event!

$10 General Admission tickets will be available online Friday, May 22 on themoth.org. Seating is first come, first served. A limited number of tickets are available for FREE to guests with a Bronx address.

Join us for an evening of storytelling, poetry and music inspired by the Bronx, the works of art on view at the Museum, and the theme for the night: PRIDE.  Make your voice heard in our open mic. Hosted by Simply Rob and Monica Martinez. Performances by John “Chance” Acevedo, Vanessa Ferreira, and Marilyn Torres. Produced in collaboration with poet, author, and Bronx Museum Community Advisory Council member Monica Martinez and Tantalizing Productions.

The Bronx’s Main Street: Walking the Grand Concourse with Sam Goodman

Meet at 11:00am in the North Wing Lobby of the Bronx Museum

Bronx native Sam Goodman, an urban planner in the Office of the Bronx Borough President, will lead a tour of the Grand Concourse, the borough’s major thoroughfare on which the Bronx Museum is located. While visiting key sites along this major thoroughfare, Goodman will provide a brief history of the Grand Concourse and explain the development of its diverse neighborhoods and communities.

Arts in the Gardens: Screening of From Mambo To Hip Hop: A South Bronx Tale

7:30pm to 10:00pm, Target Community Garden, 1025 Anderson Avenue, Bronx, New York

Join us for an outdoor screening of From Mambo To Hip Hop: A South Bronx Tale. Henry Chalfant’s energetic documentary shows how the South Bronx was a cauldron of musical creativity from the 1940s through the 1970s. Music preceding the film by DJ Medina. Produced in collaboration with the New York Restoration Project. Film produced by Elena Martínez and Steve Zeitlin, directed by Henry Chalfant. 56 minutes.

Bronx Museum Benefit Ballgame: New York Yankees vs. Philadelphia

Gates Open: 5:00PM; First Pitch: 7:05PM
