First Fridays! Dance 

Four extraordinary artists from Soledad Barrio and Noche Flamenca will perform traditional flamenco presenting a range of comedy, joy, and sadness through dance. Artist and choreographer Nia Love will perform her new project entitled Recognize, an exploration of interpersonal relationships, with her young son, virtuoso drummer Kojo Roney.

Welcome spring’s long awaited arrival at The Bronx Museum of the Arts! Explore healthy living and contemporary art through art activities and tours of our current exhibitions Three Photographers from the Bronx and Cuba Libre! Saturday, May 2, Meet at 11:00am in the Bronx Museum North Wing Lobby
As part of Jane’s Walk Weekend, Bronx native Sam Goodman, and urban planner in the Office of the Bronx Borough President, will lead a tour of the Grand Concourse. While visiting key sites along this major thoroughfare, Goodman will provide a brief history of the Grand Concourse and explain the development of its diverse neighborhoods and communities. Cohosted by Transportation Alternatives.
Wednesday, May 6, 5:30pm to 7:30pm
The Bronx Trolley stops at the Bronx Museum where author Julian Voloj will discuss his graphic novel Ghetto Brother: Warrior to Peacemaker with Benjamin Melendez, the protagonist of the book, as well as Joseph Mpa, a former Black Panther activist.
Thursday, May 7
The Bronx Museum partners with The Bronx Writers Center at the Bronx Council on the Arts and the PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature to host two workshops for writers followed by a panel of noted African writers in conversation about the importance of elders in life and art.
1:00pm to 3:00pm: “Writing Fiction from Memories, ” workshop with author Chantel Acevedo.
3:30pm to 5:30pm: “Finding One’s Voice in Writing,” workshop with author Billy Kahora
6:30pm to 8:00pm: “The Witnesses,” a discussion featuring Vinie Burrows and noted African writers Boubacar Boris Diop, Yusef Komunyakaa, Achille Mbembe, and Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o. Moderated by Rashidah Ismaili.

In honor of Senior Citizens Month, the Bronx Museum is offering FREE guided tours and refreshments for seniors every Thursday in May. Bring your friends and enjoy fun and engaging conversations about the artwork on view in our galleries. Drop in anytime between 11AM and 2PM.

Warm up in a series of five fitness classes at the Bronx Museum! Get a lesson on culture, movement, and style, and break a sweat while you’re at it.
May 14: Michelle González of Sweet Water Dance and Yoga will lead a low-intensity yoga class.
May 21: Kathryn Davis will lead visitors through “Meditation and Movement for Relaxation and Self-Healing.”
May 28: Bharati S. Kemraj of the Bharati Dance Academy is leading a Bollywood Blast class.

The Bronx Museum is celebrating the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD)’s sixth annual Art Museum Day by providing full access to our four exhibition spaces and offering 20% off memberships at all levels.
