Our Picks: TTPM

On Thursday, May 1st,  I had the opportunity to check out Time To play Mag’s Spring Showcase held downtown at the Altman Building. This event featured many top brand children’s toys and entertainment companies showcasing their new and hot items for the spring. It was nice speaking with the many representatives and learning more about the toy industry. The common theme I gathered from everyone was to create fun and innovative toys that will keep your child learning, entertained and active.

One of the first tables I came across was for Zing toys. They had fun, child size archery bows and arrows. With movies like the Hunger Games bringing archery into the limelight, I couldn’t help but give it a try. I was able to take an Air Hunterz Zano Bow home thanks to the gifting suite and my 5 year old son has not put it down since! The Zano Bow is made for smaller hands and he has been working on his target practice all weekend (indoors!).
A few of the companies brought toys from the new spring and summer movies that are coming to the theaters. Hasbro had action figures from Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy and the newly released, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Warner Bros. Is bringing back the classic Batmobile and characters from the original Batman TV series. KAPOW! My son will be so excited as he just became a fan the old shows. In keeping with the classic theme, I came across the Yomega table and observed a yo-yo master do some really cool tricks. Yo-Yos never go out of style and it was nice to see such an assortment of colors and character-themed yo-yos for your budding yo-yo expert. Thanks to Yomega, we received an awesome Yoda from Star Wars collectors yo-yo! Another timeless favorite comes from the Y’all Ball company. They make a lightweight inflatable ball that is so soft and bouncy! I never thought I would say this about such a simple toy, but they really have perfected the art of ball making. They come in various colors and fabrics and are also introducing a huge exercise ball called the Y’all Fit. I will keep my eye out for that one once it hits stores.
Nickelodeon was there with all their popular character toys such as Dora, Spongebob and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I would love to try the new Spongebob Krabby Patty maker and the automatic bubble blower from TMNT, which seemed like the perfect backyard toy for both parent and child. Simply hold the head open with one hand to blow bubbles and read your favorite magazine with the other!
Razor introduced a new line for the smaller crowd. Toddlers and pre-schoolers can now enjoy imaginary character play as they ride along with their unicorn scooter or monster hands handlebars. What a great way to make outdoor play more fun.
Overall, the event was great and I had lots of fun finding my inner-kid again. Thanks for the invitation, yummy lunch and freebies TTPM!

Check out the pics of some of the new toys (it’s probably not a bad idea to start making those holiday wish list!)
