Christmas in the Bronx

NYC is the place to be for the holidays. Tourists come in droves to see the tree lighting, to ice skate in one of the parks, to shop on 5th Ave. There are so many wonderful things to do throughout the season, and that includes the Bronx! Check out some holiday events and things to do in the Bronx that you should make part of your holiday plans and yearly traditions.


See the Holiday Train Show at NYBG. If it isn’t already a part of your holiday tradition, going to see the train show every year at the New York Botanical Garden should be. Walk through the conservatory and see trains riding through different NYC landmarks made of plant parts like leaves, nuts, and bark. Adults $20 Kids $8









Visit the Christmas House on Pelham Parkway. On any given night in December you will find crowds outside of the Garabedian House in awe. With music playing and moving mannequins, you won’t run out of places for your eye to go. 1605 Pelham Pkwy N






Visit Bartow Pell Mansion in Pelham Bay Park to see the Storybook Christmas Trees. Delight in Christmas trees throughout the mansion decorated by artists and designers inspired by contemporary children’s Christmas storybooks. This year there is a modern twist. Classics from yesteryear are taking a back seat to contemporary favorites–from Fancy Nancy to Olivia Helps with Christmas–as the theme for this year’s trees. Opens Saturday December 7th.






Ice Carving, Ice Playgound, Caroling, Crafts and more at the Bronx Zoo. Wildlife Carving Week. 12/26/2013 – 12/31/2013.


Have breakfast or lunch with Santa at The Ice House Restaurant. Watch Santa arrive by boat and have breakfast or lunch with him! Sunday December 8th, Saturday December 14th, and Sunday December 15th. Santa Clause Pajama Storytime. This kids’ event will feature a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” hot cocoa, and the jolly guy. Choose from 6:00 p.m., 6:45 or 7:30 p.m. sessions. Reservations are REQUIRED for this free event so we’ll be sure to have plenty of candy canes on hand.Reservations suggested, call Van Cortlandt House Museum at (718) 543-3344. Get holiday crafty at Wave Hill. Throughout the month there are workshops where you and/or your children can make Christmas crafts at their Holiday Workshop weekends. Some events are free, others have a project fee. Check out for more information.

Family Affair: Holiday Party at the Bronx Museum of the Arts. An afternoon filled with art-making activities and gallery tours for families and kids. Saturday December 7th at 1pm. Registration required. Register here.
