Review: Ballerina Swan

Last week we had a chance to check out Ballerina Swan, a family show that blends dance, theater, and puppetry by Making Books Sing. Making Books Sing takes family friendly books and turns them into shows that the whole family can enjoy. In the play, four students who take ballet class at a dance school near Central Park become friends with a swan named Sophie, who dreams of being a ballerina and dancing in Swan Lake.

The swan is a five foot dancing puppet operated by one of the dancers!

The play does a great job of giving young viewers a ballet experience, but in a kid friendly fashion. At only 50 minutes long, it’s perfect for younger kids who can’t still-but still a great show for the older kids as well. The theater isn’t very large, so every seat is a perfect view of the show, and it’s conveniently located near Times Square.

We recommend Ballerina Swan as a fun family outing. It’s only playing until the 24th, so make sure to get those tickets now!
